Public Policy Dialogue – Budget 2025 – Economic Realities Vs Political Realities

NEXUS hosted the 2nd in the series of public policy dialogues on 19th February under the theme “Budget 2025- Economic Realities Vs Political Realities”, moderated by Shiran Ilanperuma with panelists Dhananath Fernando (CEO, Advocata Institute) and Bram Nicholas (Economist & COO,ETIS Lanka) speaking of different aspects of the proposed budget. While Dhananath pointed out that economic growth demands dismantling outdated trade regulations, rethinking labor policies, and confronting a looming pension crisis fueled by state-sector inefficiencies, Bram challenged the conventional crisis narratives. He argued that inflation stems less from “printing money” and more from supply-side failures.
